The Kodak Retina Close-Up Lens Set, Type R, consists of three 32mm glass lenses (R 1:2/32, R 1:3/32, R 1:4.5/32) for specific Kodak Retina cameras (like IIa, IIC, IIIC, IS, Reflex models) that allow for extreme close-up photography, enabling focus from about 14 inches down to 5.5 inches, used individually or combined to achieve magnification scales from 1:4.5 to 1:1.5 for detailed shots of small subjects.

Usage Notes

For rangefinder cameras (e.g., Retina IIC, IIIC), the lenses are generally used in connection with a separate close-up attachment which helps correct for parallax error.

For Retina Reflex and Reflex S SLR cameras, the close-up attachment is not strictly required because SLR cameras have through-the-lens viewing, eliminating parallax issues.

When using the lenses, the aperture must be stopped down to at least f/8 for the R 1:4.5 and R 1:3 lenses, and to not less than f/11 for the R 1:2 and combined lenses, to ensure adequate depth of field and sharpness

    Closer Focus

    - Extends the camera's range from normal distances down to extreme close-ups (e.g., 14cm to 5.5 inches).

    Magnification

    - Enables shooting at life-size (1:1) or even greater ratios on some models. - The lenses can be used individually or in combination to achieve various picture scales (magnification ratios), including 1:4.5, 1:3, 1:2, and even 1:1.5 when combining the R 1:2 and R 1:4.5 lenses.

    Physical Size

    - Features a 32mm diameter.

    Attachment

    - Screwed onto the front of the camera's standard 50mm lens (often with a close-up attachment or adapter).

    Focusing

    - Allowed focusing much closer than normal, capturing details of small objects, flowers, or for copying documents.

    Aperture

    - Required stopping down the lens aperture (e.g., to f/8, f/11) to ensure sharpness and greater depth of field.
