Originally recorded in Newcastle in December 1963 and later reissued by Charly Records in the mid-1970s, The Animals With Sonny Boy Williamson captures a raw and historically important collaboration between legendary blues harmonica player Sonny Boy Williamson II and the early lineup of The Animals before they became international stars.

The album blends traditional electric Chicago blues with the gritty British R&B sound that helped define the British Invasion era. Sonny Boy’s unmistakable harmonica playing and vocal style are backed by a young and energetic Animals lineup featuring Eric Burdon, creating a loose, live-in-the-room feel that’s far more authentic and blues-driven than many studio albums of the period.
