The Avantone Pro CLA-200 is a professional two-channel Class A/B power amplifier designed to deliver the clean, powerful, and accurate amplification required for critical studio monitoring. Developed in collaboration with renowned mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge, the CLA-200 combines traditional amplifier design with modern components, providing the power, headroom, and transparency needed to drive demanding passive studio monitors.
Originally developed as the ideal companion to Avantone's CLA-10 Studio Reference Monitors, the CLA-200 is equally suited for use with a wide variety of passive monitoring systems. Its high-current design, substantial toroidal transformer power supply, and fanless operation make it an excellent choice for recording studios, mixing rooms, and mastering environments where sonic accuracy and dependable performance are essential.
Traditional Class A/B Amplifier Design
The CLA-200 utilizes a classic Class A/B amplifier topology, delivering 200 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms. For applications requiring additional power, the amplifier can also operate in bridged mono mode, providing up to 500 watts into an 8-ohm load.
Designed with an emphasis on low distortion, high dynamic range, and consistent performance, the CLA-200 provides the headroom necessary to reproduce demanding musical transients without introducing unwanted coloration.
A substantial toroidal transformer and linear power supply provide the foundation for the amplifier's performance, supporting stable operation and reliable power delivery across a wide range of monitoring applications.
Designed for Critical Studio Monitoring
Accurate monitoring depends on more than the quality of the loudspeakers. The amplifier driving them must provide sufficient power, control, and transparency to reproduce the source material without compromising detail or dynamics.
The CLA-200 was engineered specifically with these requirements in mind. Its high damping factor helps maintain control over speaker movement, particularly at low frequencies, while its low-distortion circuitry supports accurate reproduction of complex musical material.
Although developed to complement the Avantone CLA-10 monitors, the CLA-200 is also an excellent choice for original Yamaha NS-10M monitors and other passive studio speakers requiring a capable, high-quality amplifier.
Fanless Operation for Quiet Studio Environments
Unlike many high-powered amplifiers that rely on internal cooling fans, the CLA-200 uses a convection-cooled design to dissipate heat.
This eliminates fan noise entirely, allowing the amplifier to be installed directly in a control room without introducing unwanted mechanical noise into the listening environment.
The rugged 2U rackmount chassis provides efficient heat dissipation while maintaining a compact, professional installation footprint. Proper ventilation should be maintained around the amplifier to ensure reliable operation.
Professional Connectivity and Monitoring
The CLA-200 features balanced XLR and 1/4-inch TRS inputs, providing compatibility with professional monitor controllers, audio interfaces, mixing consoles, and other line-level audio equipment.
Independent front-panel level controls allow adjustment of each amplifier channel, while large analog VU meters provide convenient visual monitoring of output levels.
The amplifier's traditional front-panel layout combines practical functionality with the appearance of classic professional studio equipment.
Powerful, Accurate Monitoring Without Compromise
The Avantone CLA-200 combines the proven principles of traditional Class A/B amplification with the power and precision demanded by modern recording environments. With its substantial power supply, low-noise operation, and ability to drive a variety of passive studio monitors, the CLA-200 provides a dependable foundation for critical listening.
Whether paired with Avantone CLA-10 monitors, original Yamaha NS-10Ms, or another passive monitoring system, the CLA-200 delivers the power, control, and transparency necessary to make confident recording and mixing decisions.
