Neutrality and dynamics
- The Alpha 80 Evo is designed to provide a neutral tonal balance at all volume levels. This delivers accurate and reliable sound, making it a valuable reference tool for tracking, mixing, and other professional audio applications.
Slatefiber cone woofer
- The monitor's 8-inch low-frequency driver features a Slatefiber cone, which is manufactured by Focal in France using recycled, non-woven carbon fibers and thermoplastic polymer. This material provides superior rigidity, damping, and lightness, resulting in faster transient response, neutral sound, and very low distortion.
Aluminum inverted dome tweeter
- High frequencies are produced by a 1-inch aluminum inverted dome tweeter, a signature Focal design. This technology offers a wide dispersion angle and low directionality for a consistent soundstage throughout the room, even when listening off-axis.
Large laminar port
- A large front-firing laminar bass port, a design change from the original Alpha 80, helps extend the bass response while reducing port noise.
Deep low-end extension
- With a frequency response of 38Hz to 22kHz (±3dB), the Alpha 80 Evo provides extended bass and is recommended for professionals who require high sound pressure levels (SPL) and deep low-end reproduction.
Connectivity and Control
Bi-amplified Class-D design
- The monitor features a bi-amplified design with high-current Class-D amplifiers that provide 80W for the low frequencies and 35W for the high frequencies, for a total of 115W.
Multiple inputs
- The rear panel includes three different input types—balanced XLR, balanced 1/4" TRS, and unbalanced RCA—which allows you to connect up to three audio sources at once
Room tuning options
- On the rear panel, you can adjust the sound to your specific environment with dedicated controls:
Low-frequency shelving
- Adjusts the bass response (±6 dB from 0–250 Hz).
High-frequency shelving
- Adjusts the treble response (±3 dB from 4.5–35 kHz).
Input sensitivity
- A switch allows you to select between 0 dB and +6 dB.
Switchable auto standby
- An automatic standby mode, which can be disengaged via a switch, powers down the monitor after about 15 minutes of inactivity to save energy.
Construction and Design
Durable cabinet
- The Alpha 80 Evo is built with a 5/8-inch (15mm) thick MDF cabinet with internal bracing, which ensures high durability even at high sound pressure levels.
Wall mounting inserts
- Inserts are included for wall and ceiling fastening, allowing for flexible placement options.
Protective grilles
- The monitor includes protective grilles for both the tweeter and woofer
