The Focal Shape 50 is the all-rounder par excellence. Usable from a listening distance of 80 cm, it offers a very wide frequency response in the low frequencies (50 Hz) thanks to its 5" woofer with Flax membrane. Its compact, ventless design and double passive radiator enable it to be positioned close to a wall, and fit perfectly into rooms smaller than 12 m².

Focal Know-How

Shape monitors feature Focal innovations that deliver a high level of transparency. With different settings, different inputs and low-directionality loudspeakers for flexible listening positions, they meet the nearfield listening needs and acoustic characteristics of small spaces.

Wide Sound Spectrum

Its 13 cm woofer with Flax cone ensures precise, articulate bass. Low-midrange and midrange frequencies benefit from great neutrality, with no masking effect, greatly facilitating equalization of these ever-critical registers. The "M" profile tweeter is the source of very high definition, with formidable precision at very high frequencies.

Compact Design

The MDF cabinet is covered on top and front with through-dyed real walnut veneer. The monitor's compact size means it can be installed discreetly without loss of performance. Designed without a vent, it can also be positioned close to a wall.

The Focal Technologies

Passive Radiator For More Bass Presence

A passive radiator loudspeaker offers the advantages of a bass-reflex load in a very small footprint. It uses a bass loudspeaker with no motor (coil and magnet) instead of a port. This design extends the low-frequency response and delivers excellent power handling in a reduced loudspeaker volume.

Flax Membrane For The Purity And Precision Of Sound

As the key component of a loudspeaker, the membrane is at the heart of Focal's acoustic engineers' research. After more than five years of research and development, in 2013 Focal unveiled an exclusive membrane made from flax. Patented, this Flax cone is a sandwich made of very high quality French flax fibre placed between two thin sheets of glass fibre. It satisfies all the criteria of a high-fidelity membrane: lightness to offer good dynamics, rigidity to hold the bass and damping to deliver a neutral, natural, uncolored sound. It is an emblematic Focal innovation in many hi-fi products.

NIC technology Delivering High-Definition Sound

For very high-definition sound, control of the magnetic flux circulating in the loudspeaker is essential. Focal's acousticians have created a magnetic circuit of incredible stability, guaranteeing perfectly controlled sound: Neutral Inductance Circuit (NIC) technology. This patented technology resides in a Faraday ring whose dimensions, material and positioning are optimized to make the magnetic flux stable and the sound highly precise.

Stabilize Surround And Eliminate Vibrations With TMD Suspension

- The engineers at Focal are experts in all the components that make up the loudspeakers, such as the surround that connects the diaphragm to the frame, the performance of which must be mastered. Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology with harmonic damping consists of the addition of finely positioned toroidal weights to stabilize the surround for even greater sonic neutrality. This technology enhances the midrange and the erratic behavior of the surround between 1 kHz and 2 kHz.
