The SPL Director Mk2 is designed to be the centerpiece of your stereo system. It is the hub to which you can connect all your other components. Whether your need to play audio from a computer, a media player, or a phono preamp, the device can port the sound to headphone amplifiers, your passive speakers' amplifier, or active loudspeakers directly.

The Director Mk2's preamp can handle up to ten stereo input sources at a time. Six of these sources are analog connections on XLR terminations for balanced signal, and RCA inputs for unbalanced audio. Four inputs are in the digital domain, handling PCM audio at high sample rates over AES/EBU, coaxial S/PDIF, or optical connections. The Director Mk2 can support PCM audio up to 768 kHz, and DSD up to DSD4 (DSD256), thanks to its AK4490 Velvet Sound DAC chip from AKM.

Any power amp or loudspeaker can be connected over the XLR outputs, and any headphone amp can connect to the direct RCA outputs. As an added bonus to tape-machine afficionados, SPL has added an insert path which can be used as a tape monitor, or as a place in the circuit for your favorite EQ to tune the sound. A calibration switch on the rear lets you switch between consumer- and professional-level gear, so you don't ever accidentally distort the signal. Volume and source input selection can be remotely controlled using any existing infrared (IR) remote control, and the SPL Director Mk2 will learn your remote commands.
