Why choose passive Strauss Elektroakustik Mastering Studio Monitors in these days of active loudspeakers with analog or digital controllers?

The design of Strauss Elektroakustik SE-MF-4 Midfield Passive Monitor has been based on a combination of traditional tried and true elements fused with innovative technology to meet the highest demands of professional users.  Oriented on the physical ideal of the point source, these passive two-way monitors have been developed for medium and short listening distances with precision mechanics that cannot be replaced by electronics. Their high-quality passive filtering outmatches the performance of active-analog control along with that, the optimization of group delay time is achieved without active-digital control. Because power amplifiers can only be compared by means of passive transducers, innovations in amplifier and controller construction can be incorporated into monitoring systems where passive transducers are used. Summing all of this with the solid dimensioning of their electrical and mechanical elements guarantees acoustic reliability and sustained quality.

The MF-4 is meant to be used in high-end mastering and critical-listening applications. The monitor can be found in many mastering rooms around the globe. It offers a 1" compression driver with a metal-alloy diaghragm, a neodymium magnet circuit, and constant-directivity horn. For the low and midrange frequency, the speaker offers a 12" LIT woofer with a coated paper cone and a neodymium magnet circuit. The crossover is set at 1.2 kHz.

All told, this monitor will net you a frequency response of 28 Hz to 22 kHz when paired with a suitable amplifier to power the speaker. It is designed to handle 100W RMS of power. You'll find binding posts on the back of the unit to connect to an amplifier (separately available).

With a dispersion of 80 x 60 (horizontal x vertical), the monitor is quite suited for your studio environment, as it can address the sweetspot and surrounding areas more than adequately. The monitor is solidly constructed at over 100 lb, which speaks to its build quality and ability to reproduce frequencies accurately.
